What is SEEPZ EDI?
EDI or Electronic Data Interchange is the computer-to-computer communication of documents between organizations in a standard format. It is a paperless way to send and receive data through electronically coded documents.

The SEEPZ EDI system provides simple, speedy, and secure electronic communication between the administration at SEEPZ-SEZ, Mumbai and SEZ and EOU units in the zone's jurisdiction.

Before SEEPZ EDI
Hampered by a slow-moving manual system, SEEPZ sought an efficient e-governance solution for electronically managing SEZ/EOU units under its jurisdiction, to improve its own administrative efficiency and to provide quality reporting information to the Ministry of Commerce.

SEEPZ EDI - A new beginning
SEEPZ EDI, which was commissioned by the Ministry of Commerce through SEEPZ as part of its e-governance initiative, has met with tremendous success at the largest SEZ in India - SEEPZ, which employs 86,400 persons in the software, hardware and gems & jewelry sectors with exports touching Rs.11924.71 Crores (US$ 3 Billion) for the year 2006-07.

The system presently connects about 300 SEZ and about 400 EOU units to SEEPZ through a family of client and server software applications that manage gate passes, documents, and internal processes at the SEEPZ DCO (Development Commissioner's Office).

The main focus areas of SEEPZ EDI are (1) Security, (2) Document Management and (3) Workflow Management; comprising the automation of key processes like issuing gate passes, document management (submission, processing, approval, tracking and accountability), DCO's workflow and reporting.
